Why should we support animal sanctuaries?

With South Africa at the epi-centre of the rhino poaching crisis, the species is estimated to be less than 10 years away from extinction with rhinos being brutally murdered daily in National Parks Provincial Parks and on private property to meet the demand for rhino horn. At the beginning of 2021, South Africa's Ministry of Forestry and Fisheries as well as Environmental Affairs, confirmed that rhino populations in the Kruger National Park (KNP) had plummeted to an estimated 3549 white rhinos and just 268 black rhinos. KNP has lost almost 70% of this iconic species over the last 10 years.

As humans it is our responsibility the the rhinos do not become extinct, we needt o ensure that our children's children get to witness free-roaming rhinos.

Sanctuaries such as Care for Wild that specialise in the rescue, rehabilitation, rewilding, release and protection of black and white rhinos. CFW has built strong partnerships and relationships with local communities and thier community projects support youth employment; economic development; food security and improved nutrition; training and skills development; as well as creating opportunities for communities to full-fill their responsibilities as custodians of the environment.

Care for Wild is is empowering local, rural communities with sustainable solutions to socio-economic issues as well as conserving and protecting biodiversity and South Africa's heritage, for future generations.
